Project two (Annotated Bibliography) Polished draft
Project two was meant to prepare me for project three by helping me find sources to include in my writing. To me, this project was difficult because I had to go through several different sources and read over them to make sure I can use them and if the source is credible.
Annotated Bibliography
“America's Nuclear Triad.” U.S. Department of Defense, www.defense.gov/Experience/Americas-Nuclear-Triad/. Accessed 9 Mar. 2021.
The U.S. Department of Defense website's purpose is to inform the country that if another country tries to sneak attack us, we can strike back at any time. This article also informs us about our land sea and air plan for protection. This source is credible because it comes from Stright from the us department of defense. I plan on using this information to show how nuclear ballistic missiles are our greatest defense.
Anderson, Matthew P. "NATO Nuclear Deterrence: The Warsaw Summit and Beyond." Connections: The Quarterly Journal, vol. 15, no. 4, 2016, pp. 5-30. ProQuest, https://search-proquest-com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/scholarly-journals/nato-nuclear-deterrence-warsaw-summit-beyond/docview/1872195549/se-2?accountid=39906, doi:http://dx.doi.org.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/10.11610/Connections.15.4.01. Accessed 14 Mar,2021.
Matthew Anderson source talks about the NATO organization explaining the purpose behind it. Anderson also talks about the deterrence policy with the purpose to inform the readers of this source. I believe this course to be credible because all the information comes from North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). I plan to use this information to include the policies and countries involved in the NATO organization.
"Big Nukes Out, Tiny Nukes in: An Illustrated Weekly Review of the Mechanical Press of the World." Popular Mechanics, vol. 181, no. 3, 03, 2004, pp. 24. ProQuest, https://search-proquest-com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/magazines/big-nukes-out-tiny/docview/216791372/se-2?accountid=39906. Accessed 9 Mar. 2021..
This report discusses how they achieved the goal of ridding the world of these weapons of mass destruction. They plan to have more control and worldwide safety after seeing how dangerous the nukes are in the cold war. The American construction company Bechtel helped with dismantling 176 intercontinental ballistic missile silos and 17 launch control centers. (Big) I believe this source to be credible because it is a magazine that comes from a Division of Hearst Communications, Inc. With the purpose to inform the public. The author and I have some ideas in common just like how we both want more control when it comes to nuking production and how we both also want to reuse the number of nukes in the world. Even though the world came to an agreement not to do anymore testing on nuclear weapons that does not take away the fact that there is still too many.
By Richard Scheinin KNIGHT-RIDDER NEWSPAPERS. "Learning to Live with the Bomb we Watch Godzilla Movies, `nuke' our Food and Wear Bikinis: [Final Edition]." Toronto Star, Aug 04, 1995. ProQuest, https://search-proquest com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/newspapers/learning-live-with-bomb-we-watch-godzilla-movies/docview/437296592/se-2?accountid=39906. Accessed 9 Mar. 2021.
This article talks about how the U.S. was consumed with atomic anxiety living in fear knowing that at any moment the world can come to its end. I believe this source to be credible because I can relate to the fear and anxiety from just thinking about making Russa or any country mad and the next day receiving a warning that a nuke is on its way to hit us. I plan to use this cite to help me relate my essay to my audience emotions.
Geller, Daniel S. "Nuclear Weapons, Deterrence, and Crisis Escalation: NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND ESCALATION NUCLEAR DISPUTES NUCLEAR/NONNUCLEAR DISPUTES EVIDENCE ON DETERRENCE AND ESCALATION DATAANALYSIS CONCLUSION REFERENCES." The Journal of Conflict Resolution (1986-1998), vol. 34, no. 2, 1990, pp. 291. ProQuest, https://search-proquest-com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/scholarly-journals/nuclear-weapons-deterrence-crisis-escalation/docview/236103562/se-2?accountid=39906. Accessed 14 Mar,2021.
This study presents an analysis of escalation patterns in interstate disputes among nations with both identical and various levels of weapons technology. Daniel Geller talks about how the country with nuclear weapons does not just have a military advantage but also a phycological advantage. I believe this sorce to be credible because this study is involved out of series of discussions with the correlation of War/World politics group, department of political science and the university of Michigan. I plan to use this to show how the ownership of nukes makes other country's think twice before attacking the U.S.
Jothi. "How Nuclear Bombs are made: [Life and Times, 2* Edition]." New Straits Times, May 29, 1998, pp. 08. ProQuest, https://search-proquest-com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/newspapers/how-nuclear-bombs-are-made/docview/266355523/se-2?accountid=39906. Accessed 9 Mar. 2021.
Jothi informs us about how the Bomb is made, and the elements used. This article gets a little into how the nuclear bomb got started and talks about the science of how it has made. This source might be a bit on the older side, but the information found inside the source makes me believe that this source is still credible. I plan to use this information to introduce and help my audience understand the basics of a nuclear weapon.
Moore, Mike. "Unintended Consequences." Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, vol. 56, no. 1, 2000, pp. 58-64. ProQuest, https://search-proquest-com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/scholarly-journals/unintended-consequences/docview/197952164/se-2?accountid=39906. Accessed 9 Mar. 2021.
Mike Moore talks about the Outer Space Treaty which is an agreement that parties of the treaty cannot place anything in space caring nuclear weapons. This source is for research purposes only. This source also, seems to be credible because one of the organizations associated with this article is the Department of Defense. I plan to use this information to show that we have treaty is that take protection to the safety of our people.
Rudesill, Dakota S. "Nuclear Arms Control: Coming Back from Oblivion, again." Journal of National Security Law & Policy, vol. 10, no. 2, 2019, pp. 429-444. ProQuest, https://search-proquest-com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/scholarly-journals/nuclear-arms-control-coming-back-oblivion-again/docview/2395865037/se-2?accountid=39906. Accessed 14 Mar,2021.
Dakota Rudesill goes over a lot of different topic like nuclear test, geopolitics, arms control, and disarmament. The purpose of this sorce is to be informational and have a lot of good up to date information. I believe this sorce to be credible because its information that comes from the NATO organization. I plan to use this information to talk about the arms control plan.
Siracusa, Joseph M. Nuclear Weapons: A Very Short Introduction. Oxford University Press, 2008 http://search.ebscohost.com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/login.aspx?direct=true&db=e900xww&AN=230972&site=ehost-live&scope=site. Accessed 9 Mar. 2021.
This source covers nuclear weapons in the united states. Joseph M Siracusa doesn't just introduce nuclear weapons but also talks about nuclear deterrence and arms control. I find this to be a credible source of information because it has been published by the Oxford University Press. I plan to use this book to explain how nuclear weapons have made countries think twice before going into war.
Uhler, Walter C. "U.S. Addicted to Nuclear Weapons since Hiroshima, Nagasaki." CCPA Monitor, vol. 14, no. 9, 03, 2008, pp. 40-42. ProQuest, https://search-proquest-com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/magazines/u-s-addicted-nuclear-weapons-since-hiroshima/docview/215635243/se-2?accountid=39906. Accessed 9 Mar. 2021.
According to Walter C Uhler, the U.S. has been addicted to nuclear weapons since the bombing of Hiroshima, Nagasaki. Nowadays the U.S. has 5,800 nuclear warheads known to the public and in 75 years we went from two nukes to almost six thousand so is the U.S government really addicted? Looks like it. Our 34th U.S. president Dwight D. Eisenhower said, "It would be Impossible for the U.S. to maintain Its military commitments, " "if we did not possess atomic weapons and the will to use them when necessary." (Uhler) This backs up and shows that the U.S. feels like we need nukes to have a strong military which leads to the mass production of nukes and that can be seen as "addicting". This source seems to be credible because Walter used information and quotes from Leo Szilard, nuclear physicist, and the president of the united states. In this source it also talks about the effects the bombs dropped in japan and I plan to use this information to show why we should not have nukes.
White, Josh. "Military Probes how Nukes Flew Over U.S.; Officials: Warheads Not Activated for use: [Chicago Edition]." Chicago Tribune, Sep 06, 2007, pp. 1. ProQuest, https://search-proquest-com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/newspapers/military-probes-how-nukes-flew-over-u-s-officials/docview/420612014/se-2?accountid=39906. Accessed 9 Mar. 2021.
Josh White informs us about the time The Stratospheres bomber, based at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., was flying a dozen advanced cruise missiles to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., But crews inadvertently loaded half of them with nuclear warheads attached. The Air Force quickly launched an investigation, and the munitions squadron commander was relieved of his duties, and crews involved with the mistaken load have been temporarily decertified for handling munitions. I believe this source to be creatable because Josh White prepose is to share the information/ news resaved straight from the U.S. air force. I plan to use this information to provide examples of accidents that can happen when it comes to nuclear warheads.
Zweifel, Dave. "U.S. TAKES BRAKES OFF NUKE ARMS RACE: [ALL EDITION]." Madison Capital Times, Apr 25, 2005, pp. 8A. ProQuest, https://search-proquest-com.uaptc.idm.oclc.org/newspapers/u-s-takes-brakes-off-nuke-arms-race/docview/395303710/se-2?accountid=39906. Accessed 9 Mar. 2021.
The article by Dave Zweifel is about how the United States put a stop to the nuclear arms race. Reading this article showed that the reason the U.S. stopped was so that other countries can also stop. I believe this source to be credible because it was published by the Madison Newspapers and uses information that came Stright from our government. I plan on using this information to show how our county is trying to control and prevent our enemies from making even more dangerous nukes.
